Whole School Approach

A holistic approach to education for sustainable development which sees it as being incorporated in all layers of schooling rather than it just being taught as a stand-alone subject. The whole school approach uses participatory methods to facilitate learning, and calls for all sectors of the school, from students to teachers to administrators to be actively engaged in working towards a sustainable school.

Women’s Major Group

The Women’s Major Group (WMG) was created in 1992 at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, when governments decided to recognize women as one of the nine important groups in society which are necessary to achieve sustainable development. The WMG is self-organized and open to all interested organizations working on women’s human rights, women’s empowerment and gender equality. The WMG is responsible for facilitating its members input into UN processes (e.g. providing access to documents, submitting proposals, speaking and participating).
