Volunteer vacancy: a young person (16-24) with a hands-on mentality

Minimum of 4 hours per week

Apply before the 20th of August 23:59h

Start in September

Are you:

  • A go-getter?
  • A person that knows how to motivate and mobilize others?
  • A person who has affinity with Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR)?
  • A person who is looking for a new challenge in the non-profit sector?

Then CHOICE for Youth and Sexuality is looking for you! We are recruiting a young talent (16-24) to strengthen our team.

CHOICE is a professional organization based in Amsterdam led by a group of passionate young people between 16 and 30 years old. We work to improve the rights of young people worldwide to make their own choices about their sexuality and when and if they want to have children. This is needed because in many countries, these rights are violated: many young people cannot access health services, (emergency) contraception, and the right information about sexuality and reproduction. Besides that, there are lots of young people who get discriminated or even prosecuted for their sexual orientation or gender identity/expression.

To change this CHOICE does two main things:

  1. We provide trainings to other youth organisations in South-America, Africa and Asia to strengthen their skills, build leadership and give them the tools to call on their own (local) government to recognize, promote and protect the rights of youth.
  1. We lobby for SRHR and youth rights at relevant United Nations negotiations, the European Parliament, and other international events, often together with our African, Asian and European partners.

Within our team of youth advocates for CHOICE, we are looking for someone with the skills of a successful go-getter. CHOICE youth advocates work with passion and creativity. We are looking for ambitious young people who want to join our organization to make a change. Of course, it is important that you have affinity with the topics of SRHR. Within CHOICE you will have the opportunity to become a member of one of our Clusters that represent a part of the organization. You can choose between the clusters Member Management, CHOICE University, Capacity Development, Creative Communication and International Advocacy.

Opportunities! CHOICE promotes the ‘learning by doing’ principle. With us you can learn and be active in the topics that you think are interesting and relevant.

Experiences! With us you can go abroad and meet, network with and train young people from all over the world. Chances are you may learn at least as much from them as they will from you. Plus, your fellow CHOICErs will most likely become your friends in no time.

Travel costs of all CHOICE activities (including meetings) are reimbursed and we offer professional supervision in the preparation of all (international) activities.

Aside from enthusiasm and practical skills, we want you to bring:

Time & Flexibility! We ask you to spend a minimum of 4 hours per week on CHOICE. We also have general meetings once every six weeks, mostly in the evenings or weekends.

Input! Even if you are new to the organisation, we value your opinion. Therefore, we expect you to give input on the way the organisation is working, also on a strategic level. With diverse backgrounds, every CHOICEr brings their own expertise to the organisation.

Courage & Drive! As an active CHOICE member, it is important that you fully support our charter which underlines progressive issues such as free choices with regard to sexuality, LGBTI rights and safe and legal abortion.

Long-term commitment! The knowledge and skills you obtain at CHOICE are important to CHOICE and its members. Therefore, we expect you to stay a member for at least one year.

Applicants should be between 16 and 24 years old and living in the Netherlands. Dutch nationality is not required. We specifically encourage people of colour, people living with HIV and gender diverse/trans people to apply. If you have any questions or would like to get more information, you can use the email address listed below.

Additionally, young people with prior advocacy experience in the Dutch context, organizational skills and/or video editing and digital media skills are strongly encouraged to apply.

Enthusiastic? Please send your curriculum vitae and motivation letter, in English, before the 20th of August 23.59h to ADVOCATES@CHOICEFORYOUTH.ORG
